Hi everyone,
I've come across the interreality.org website, and I think your vision of
the 3d "metaverse" internet is very close to how I would envision it. I also
like that you guys are working hard on making a solid back-end and object
system to support shared distributed spaces rather than just starting with a
hacked-together 3d chat or secondlife/active worlds clone and hoping it'll
go somewhere from there :) ... the key to a true internet-wide metaverse is
that it can't be owned by only one company or run on only one serverfarm,
but it seems that too many people don't realize that. It really annoys me
when the press calls secondlife the "metaverse" ... might as well call world
of warcraft the metaverse!
Anyway, this project looks very interesting, and I'm sorry you guys have
apparently had a lull of late. Hopefully interest will pick up again soon!
As for myself, I have some C++ and windows programming experience, and would
love to contribute. Unfortunately I have very little free time and would
only be able to throw a few hours a week at the project. So I think for now
I'll probably spend the next few weeks lurking, trying to get the code to
compile, and figuring out just how all this stuff works. Though I may pop up
on this list from time to time with questions or perhaps just to wax
philosophical about what kinds of features the metaverse should have :)
Anyway, good luck with your project, and hopefully you'll see me around in
the future!
