The first version of  TerAngreal could do this, so I think I'm talking 
about something much simpler than you think :)    All I mean is that as 
scene author you *manually* subdivide nested spaces, and you make some 
container object for that nested space represent the nested space. It's 
not automatic.  When you click on it, the client reloads the scene from 
that child space as root. -- It's just a hyperlink to another world. 
(If you want to automate it you'd have the equivalent of a 
ProximitySensor grab you when you crossed into the stand-in object 
(planet) and make you follow the hyperlink).  But this all is good for 
user navigation because it matches how the user wants to navigate the 
world.
